Karen Hills’ Addicks ended their unblemished road season with a 1-0 victory over Sunderland at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground.
Kayleigh Barton broke the deadlock around the hour mark, knocking in from close range to secure all three points for the Addicks in DH5.
Rebecca McKenna was the first to test Claudia Moan in goal for the home team. The full-back sprinted the length of the Sunderland half, passing the opposition defender and hitting a goal-bound shot that was pushed out for a corner kick.
Melissa Johnson was soon sent one-on-one with the Lasses’ stopper, courtesy to some smart thinking by Barton. Fortunately for Melanie Reay, Moan was quick off the line to stop the advance.
On the hour mark, the Addicks went ahead through Barton. Johnson’s initial effort was palmed as far as Barton on the penalty spot, allowing the forward to tap in with ease and fire Charlton in front.
