According to the former Hearts player, Joe Savage was “absolutely battered” after Rangers were informed they couldn’t pay Lawrence Shankland.
The former Hearts sports director says he immediately regretted his remarks about Shankland on Deadline Day of the 2023 January transfer window while appearing on BBC Radio Scotland’s Off The Ball.
Shankland won Scotland’s Player of the Year award last season after scoring 31 goals across all competitions while still at Tynecastle, but a high-profile move to Ibrox has not yet materialised savage stated in statements cited by the Daily Record on November 30: “I got battered for that.”
I was severely reprimanded for stating that the Rangers couldn’t afford Lawrence Shankland.
However, since we weren’t willing to sell Shanks, no one was signing him at that time, and the opportunity was closing.
There was no contact, no dialogue at all. Rangers never approached us to sign Lawrence Shankland when I was at Hearts.
Rangers must decide whether to sign Lawrence Shankland even if it may be argued that the Gers lost out on signing Shankland before his prolific 2023–24 season, it appears that the striker’s situation has changed.
