According to Peter O’Rourke, West Ham is “well-positioned” to defeat Everton in the competition to recruit Tariq Lamptey, a Brighton star, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025.
With just four appearances this season, including three in the EFL Cup, Lamptey has struggled to establish himself in the starting eleven for the south coast side.
He has been with Brighton for six seasons, and while his talent has always been clear, injury problems have frequently held him back. Regaining some of his best form might be best achieved by moving to a place with more opportunities for him to play regularly.
According to Rourke, via Football Insider, West Ham and Everton are the two teams vying for Lamptey at the moment, with the former of the two teams reportedly leading the battle.
Given the player’s contract status, Brighton might feel under pressure to sell in January if they can’t persuade the full-back to sign an extension.
The player might, however, opt to play out the rest of his present contract and leave for free in the summer, according to Football Insider sources.
