Report shares if Titans will stick with Will Levis over Mason Rudolph By Zac Wassink | Last updated 10/2/24 Shortly after backup quarterback Mason Rudolph shepherded the previously winless Tennessee Titans to a 31-12 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Monday night, Tennessee head coach Brian Callahan insisted that second-year pro Will Levis will be the starter when he is cleared to return from the shoulder injury he suffered at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. Per Grant Gordon of the NFL’s website, Callahan reiterated on Tuesday that “Will is our starting quarterback” and that “there’s no controversy” regarding the club’s QB1 situation. For an update shared on Wednesday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler expanded on Callahan’s mindset.
Rudolph hardly played like a world-beater against the Dolphins, as he completed 9-of-17 pass attempts for just 85 yards to help the Titans improve to 1-3 on the season. With that said, the stats show Levis was one of the league’s worst starting quarterbacks over the campaign’s first month.
According to Pro Football Reference, Levis entered Tennessee’s Week 5 bye ranked 31st in the NFL among qualified players with a 24.6 adjusted QBR, 27th with a 39.8 percent passing success rate and 30th with an average of 151.0 passing yards per game on the season. He and Anthony Richardson of the Indianapolis Colts have tossed a league-worst six interceptions.
Some may remember how Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales said last month that Bryce Young “is our quarterback” shortly before Canales benched Young in favor of veteran Andy Dalton. Fans shouldn’t expect Callahan to follow in Canales’ footsteps.
