Celtic announced a surprise friendly encounter with Sligo Rovers earlier today that is set to take place during next month’s international break.

The Bhoys will travel across the Irish Sea to play at the Showgrounds on October 9th at 7.30 pm. Away tickets are now on sale to season ticket holders.

The northwest of the Emerald Isle has historically continued to be strongly Celtic. Since the club’s foundation, there has been a close bond with the region because Brother Walfrid was born in Ballymote, a little town a short distance away. Apart from the event itself, bench warmers and players who aren’t on international assignment might be able to log crucial first-team time. Preseason play at the Showgrounds saw Everton emerge with a 3-3 draw, demonstrating that they will not be taking this League of Ireland team lightly. As they get ready for their trip to Ireland later this month, Sligo Rovers manager John Russell has extolled the virtues of Celtic before of the match.
