Daniel Farke, the Leeds United manager, has highlighted the importance of rewarding Joel Piroe for his patience and service to the club over the past year. The Dutch forward stepped in to fill the void left by Georginio Rutter at The Hawthorns on Saturday, but was substituted within 65 minutes following a lacklustre performance in the final third.
Farke made seven changes from the team that suffered a defeat to Middlesbrough on Wednesday, with Piroe being the only player retained. Despite Rutter still being on United’s books as they kicked off against West Bromwich Albion, he was absent, finalising his £40m move to Brighton and Hove Albion.
