Coventry City and Hull City race to sign Josh Windass – sources

According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Coventry City and Hull City are in the lead to recruit Josh Windass, the star of Sheffield Wednesday, on a free transfer this summer. At the end of this month, Windass’s contract with the Owls expires, and no agreement has been reached for him to stay at Hillsborough for the upcoming campaign.

Hull and Coventry are both keen to boost their attacking options this summer and are planning to make the 30-year-old an offer over the coming weeks.

The attacker scored six goals and laid on two assists in 25 appearances to help Wednesday retain their Championship status for another year.

Windass has been a standout performer for the Owls since joining the club from Wigan Athletic in 2020.

During that time, the forward – who can play in a variety of different attacking positions – has scored 40 goals and laid on 17 assists in 135 appearances.

The Hull-born man has played 129 games in the second tier across his career, while he also spent two years with Scottish giants Rangers.

That experience has led to Coventry and Hull registering their interest in signing Windass once his contract with the Owls expires later this month.
