BREAKING NEWS: Leicester City issued a warning to PSR as the threat of a record points penalty was mentioned.

Football finance specialist Kieran Maguire has cautioned any incoming Leicester City manager about the first challenge they would confront at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes are in the midst of a prolonged waiting period following the departure of promotion-winning manager Enzo Maresca to Chelsea, but they are expected to have contenders in mind to replace the Italian.

However, if Maresca had stayed put, one of the big items on his summer agenda would have been a potential points deduction for City’s suspected violation of player spending regulations when they were last in the Premier League.

And Maguire warns that once Leicester are officially back in the top flight, the case would be expedited, with a 15-point punishment possible.

In an interview with the Football Insider website, the academic, author, and broadcaster stated that the Premier League would want to process Leicester’s case as soon as possible to provide clarification before the start of the 2024/25 season.

The club was penalized in April with violating the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules after showing losses of £89.7 million in their 2022/23 accounts.

According to The Telegraph, their anticipated punishment might range from six to a record-breaking 15 points, making survival from relegation exceedingly difficult.

Maguire stated, “First and foremost, Leicester exploited the regulations effectively to avoid punishment last season. They claimed they were neither an EFL or Premier League club for the three years going up to June 30th, 2023.

“But it was a matter of postponing the problem rather than resolving it. It is now up to the Premier League to resolve this immediately.
