Breaking News; Nicolás Freire, an Inter Miami defender, had an ACL injury.

Nicolás Freire, a center back for Inter Miami CF, is set to miss the rest of the 2024 MLS season after injuring his right ACL (knee), the team reported Monday.

Freire was injured in the second half of Inter Miami’s 1-0 victory over D.C. United.

The veteran Argentine defender joined Inter Miami on a season-long loan from Liga MX club Pumas UNAM, appearing in ten games (nine starts).

Without Freire, head coach Tata Martino is anticipated to rely on Tomás Avilés and Sergii Kryvtsov as the team’s primary center-back partnership. If Inter Miami wants to make roster additions, the Secondary Transfer Window runs from July 18 to August 14.

Inter Miami players Freire and Facundo Farías have suffered season-long knee injuries in 2024. Diego Gómez and Federico Redondo, both midfielders, have also been sidelined for extended periods of time but are expected to return soon.

Despite another injury setback, Inter Miami is leading the Supporters’ Shield race into Matchday 15. They have 36 goals, the most in the league, and 31 points (9W-2L-4D).
