A new goalkeeper for Parkhead must be at the top of Celtic’s wish list as they prepare for a hectic summer transfer window. Joe Hart has declared his retirement at the conclusion of this season. Since joining the team from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021, the Englishman has been the team’s main choice between the posts for the last three seasons.
Replacing someone of Hart’s caliber will not be simple. He has been a leader for this youthful team in addition to being a reliable goalie for Celtic.
Thus, Hart’s replacement will involve more than merely adding a capable goalkeeper. To replace him on the team, Celtic would ideally need someone who possesses leadership abilities as well.
It’s interesting to note that Celtic appears to be keeping an eye on Ugurcan Cakir, the captain of Trabzonspor and a Turkish international. And if there’s truth to the rumors, they’ve offered a big deal to get him to Parkhead.
According to Gunebakis (via 67 Hail Hail), Celtic has made Cakir a “serious offer” for about €7.5 million. It’s also thought that AS Roma and Nantes are interested. As an alternative, Al-Ahli has offered a €10 million proposal.
Therefore, it appears that Celtic are quite interested in signing Cakir. However, there are other contenders vying for the position of Turkish international goalkeeper. It will now be interesting to watch who prevails.
