Breaking; Rangers are close to a £2.5 million deal as the team is ready to let go of a star. A new signing has also been agreed upon.

Over the weekend, there were rumors circulating that suggested Rangers were getting close to making their first summer transfer window acquisition, which gave us a deja vu feeling.

Back in January, Philippe Clement’s side agreed terms with Fluminence to bring in the highly-rated left-back jefte Vital. The Brazilian youngster, on loan at APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus,  apparently in an attempt to force through a move to Ibrox.

However, Jefte’s dream transfer to Rangers was dashed when APOEL declined to sever his loan agreement halfway through the season. The 20-year-old then came back with his tail between his legs, apologizing to his club and re-establishing himself in the starting lineup.

Rangers, of course, will be hoping that their pursuit of  Jose Cordoba– four months on – does not end with another grovelling apology, but with the Panama international holding a blue scarf aloft on the Ibrox turf.

Advanced Rangers Jose Cordoba converses

Similar to Jefte’s brief absence in January, Cordoba was noticeably absent as Levski Sofia got ready for Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Cherno More. After travelling to Scotland to see the recent 4-1 triumph over Kilmarnock, Cordoba apparently reached a “advanced” point in talks with the Glasgow giants, which resulted in the 22-year-old being left out of the matchday squad (Rangers Review).

Thankfully, it is where the parallels between the Jefte case and the Cordoba scenario end. Levski Sofia, in contrast to APOEL, doesn’t seem to be in the mood to deny Cordoba the opportunity to advance in the football league.
