This season, the Florida team has been beset by setbacks, ranging from Lionel Messi’s month-long absence to Facundo Farias’ season-ending ACL injury sustained early in the preseason.
Even with all the talent and depth the Herons possess, Inter Miami’s injury luck has been among the worst of any MLS team this season with players like Federico Redondo and Jordi Alba sidelined.
Additionally, a key player for Inter Miami has now acknowledged that he has missed much of the season due to injuries.
- Nicolas Freire, an Argentine center back, told the media following yesterday’s workout that he has been playing the most of the season with an ailment. The defender arrived in Florida in January with a fitness concern.
Since joining Aviles as Tata Martino’s starting center-back this season, the on-loan Tigres star Freire has been brilliant for Inter Miami, adding leadership and experience to the backline.
Even if the calendar has somewhat calmed down with Inter Miami’s elimination from the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the fact that Freire has been playing with a condition will undoubtedly worry Inter Miami supporters.
“This is a good league, but I’m getting there, step by step,” Freire remarked. As you are aware, I had an injury when I arrived, and I have been carrying it for over three months. I’m personally trying everything to feel well physically, and this work is making me feel great.
Freire is a player that Inter Miami cannot afford to lose, so giving him a few games off could not be the worst thing the Florida team does this month.
