Breaking: NRL Casualty Ward: Rabbitohs duo go down, JWH, Tupou ruled out

After halfback Dean Hawkins and fullback Jye Gray were ruled out due to injuries on Thursday night, the Rabbitohs suffered a double blow.

Hawkins exited the field in the 25th minute after hurting his quad after a kickoff, while Gray appeared to have suffered a possible syndesmosis injury. Hawkins had scored an early try for South Sydney.

It’s not good. Jye looks like he’s got a syndesmosis and Dean’s got a quad strain so not ideal,” interim coach Ben Hornby said post match.

There was also concerns for prop Jai Arrow late in the match when he was seen in discomfort in just his second game back from a shoulder injury suffered in Round 1.

“Jai’s fine. He got a couple of whacks on it and we thought about taking him off at the back end of the game but he said he was good to stay on so that’s usually a good sign for us,” Hornby added.

The injuries saw interim coach Ben Hornby make several changes mid-game with Damien Cook shifting to fullback in his 200th match, Jack Wighton from centre into the halves and Peter Mamouzelos finning in at hooker.

Veteran propΒ Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has had to put celebrations for his 300th match with Sydney Roosters on hold after being ruled out of Friday night’s trip to Brisbane to meet the Broncos.
