George Dobson declined to comment on his future with Charlton Athletic, but hailed becoming captain as the “best honour” of his career.

Dobson signed a pre-contract agreement with Hungarian club Fehervar in February, with his Charlton contract ending at the conclusion of the season.

However, CEO Nathan Jones has often indicated his wish to keep Dobson at The Valley.

The South London Press has been informed that the terms of the Fehervar relocation are legally binding. If that’s the case, Dobson’s only chance of staying at Charlton next season appears to be if the League One team can agree on a transfer cost.

Charlton Live: “There isn’t much I can say.

“I do not want to be the awkward egg in the room. Football is a strange game. A lot of things happen behind the scenes that you can’t speak about.

“It is an excellent football club. Whatever happens, I’ve had the most amazing three years.

“Captaining this football club has been the greatest honour of my career.

“I truly believe that will be the greatest honour of my career.

“I don’t want to say too much about it because I can’t.” We’ll see.

“I have no regrets on my part. I think Charlton could have handled it better, but that’s football.
