- Peter Leven is poised to turn down a proposal from Barnsley to become Jimmy Thelin’s loyal deputy at Aberdeen.
The present temporary manager has been invited by both the Swede and the club to serve as his assistant first-team coach when he arrives from Elfsborg this summer. Thelin expects to benefit from Leven’s understanding of the division and the country as a whole to boost his chances of success, and the 40-year-old has expressed his excitement and commitment to the Dons’ long-term aspirations with Thelin.
It comes after the Tykes made it plain that he was on their shortlist of potential replacements for Neil Collins, who was fired from Oakwell earlier this week
“I am committed here, I have loved it here and I am happy to be part of it for next season,” Leven went on to say.
“I’m doing okay, there is obviously room for improvement and I will always work on that but it is a great club and hopefully the next five games can go well.”
Despite a poor start to their campaign, Thelin has refused to leave Sweden early to take on the role.
