Mauricio Pochettino provided an update on Cole Palmer ahead of Aston Villa’s Premier League match against Chelsea.


Palmer was ruled out of Chelsea’s 5-0 defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday night due to sickness, and Pochettino’s team missed the midfielder, who has 20 Premier League goals in his first season at Stamford Bridge after joining from Manchester City.


Pochettino was asked if Palmer will be fit to face Villa at Villa Park on Saturday (8pm)

Pochettino said Chelsea lacked Palmer’s creativity against the Gunners, but refused to believe that his absence was the reason they lost.


“I think we cannot say that was the reason because we lost the game,” he told reporters. “He is a creative player who assists us in linking all of the team’s lines.


“The most difficult aspect is that we are losing players, which makes it extremely difficult. Today, regardless of the circumstances, we did not compete from the start, making it tough to remain in the game.
