Former Rangers striker Rory Loy believes a number of the squad’s leaders are unable to handle the strain of a tight title fight, following further missed points on Wednesday night.
The Ibrox team were held to a 0-0 draw at Dundee, leaving Celtic three points ahead with five games remaining. Philippe Clement’s side has only picked up five points from the last 15 available, with defeats at home to Motherwell and away to Ross County jeopardising their title hopes
Celtic also have a better goal difference as things stand, meaning Rangers will likely need to win against their rivals at Parkhead next month and hope Brendan Rodgers’ side drop points elsewhere
Loy mentioned James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, and John Lundstram when discussing how Rangers struggled to deal with the pressure of the title fight, claiming that they did not endure the same mental problems in 2020 due to Celtic’s weak season, as Steven Gerrard guided the Ibrox team to victory.
“I don’t believe they have dealt well with the pressure,” Loy told BBC Scotland. “I believe several of their veterans, Tavernier, Goldson, and Lundstram, have been in this position before, and whenever that kind of pressure is put, they do not appear to react well
