Not all goal celebrations are notable. Orlando Pirates’ Tshegofatso Mabasa is an exception. Here’s why he celebrates the way he does.

Following the team’s 7-1 victory over Golden Arrows, Orlando Pirates fans are jumping this morning. Tshegofatso Mabasa is a striker. This relates to his goal-celebration.




On Saturday, April 6, Steve Komphela and his Arrows team had a night to remember. Orlando Pirates’ greatest-ever victory was achieved by three goals from Mabasa and three more from Relebohile Mofokeng, Kabelo Dlamini, Sandile Mthethwa, and Karim Kimvuidi.

After Mabasa scored three goals last night, supporters witnessed him again do his signature celebration. The Orlando Pirates striker, who formerly played for Botshabelo’s Bloemfontein Celtic, was available to discuss his goal celebration with SuperSport TV. “It’s just for people to know I’m back home, and I’m here to score goals, and that’s exactly what I wanna do,” he said.

The former Grey College student was astounded by the depth of skill in the Sea Robbers squad. If the club plays as a cohesive one and consistently so, he thinks they can achieve great things.




The Orlando Pirates striker, meanwhile, has soared to the top of the DStv Premiership goalscorer’s table. Lucas Ribeiro of Mamelodi Sundowns has now been levelled by Mabasa at the top. With his hat-trick against Abafana Bes’thende, Mabasa surpassed players like Khanyisa Mayo, Iqraam Rayners, and Bradley Grobler with 10 goals.
