Roundup of the Championship: Leicester is back atop after defeating Leeds and Ipswich

Leicester defeated Birmingham to reclaim the top spot in the Championship, while Leeds and Ipswich suffered defeats. As a result, it is still impossible to predict who will advance automatically.

Stephy Mavididi’s header in the 89th minute gave Leicester the victory, sending relegation-threatened Birmingham to a 2-1 loss. After Jay Stansfield canceled out Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s opener, Gary Rowett’s team appeared to be headed for a crucial point. However, just as Enzo Maresca’s team appeared to be heading for the rocks, Mavididi made sure a commanding display at the King Power Stadium did not go to waste.

Leeds was defeated by Coventry, their first league loss in 16 games, and lost the opportunity to move up to the top spot. Inside, Ellis Simms nodded in his seventeenth of the season.

Stoke picked up a precious point in their fight for survival as they came back from 2-0 down to draw with West Brom. The Baggies stretched their unbeaten run to nine but it was a case of what could have been for Carlos Corberán’s side, who could have further cemented their play-off spot with victory at the bet365 Stadium. Celtic loanee Mikey Johnston and Jed Wallace put the visitors two goals to the good with strikes either side of half-time, but Million Manhoef pulled one back before André Vidigal levelled with the rebound after Alex Palmer saved his penalty.
