Lionel Messi has been selected to Inter Miami’s matchday roster for Saturday’s match against the Colorado Rapids, and the Argentine legend might play his first game in a month.

Messi has been out of action for six matches due to a hamstring injury, most recently missing Inter Miami’s 2-1 loss to Monterrey in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Following that encounter, Miami’s head coach, Tata Martino, stated that the team was evaluating Messi “game by game.”

The 36-year-old has been included to Miami’s 20-man matchday team for an MLS match against Colorado at Chase Stadium, ahead of the return leg in Mexico next week.

With lingering ailments ailing Messi and a full schedule for Miami, the 36-year-old has appeared in only five of the Herons’ ten competitive games in 2024. This year, Miami has not lost a game with Messi, but has only one win without him.

According to the club’s latest update on Messi’s status, the superstar is not featured on any updated injury reports for the weekend. That’s good news, as Miami has confirmed that seven players will be out versus the Rapids.

That includes winger Robert Taylor, who left early against Monterrey on Wednesday, and highly valued teenage midfielder Federico Redondo.
Messi, however, is not the only player to have returned from injury. Benjamin Cremaschi, a U.S. men’s national team prospect, will also travel to Colorado after playing 25 minutes for Miami’s MLS Next Pro team on Tuesday. Cremaschi, 19, is yet to play for Miami this season after suffering a sports hernia in January.
