“Gaffer” Steven Pressley of the city

In 2013, on this Good Friday (March 30th), City had three managers so far this season—four if you include our member Richard Shaw, who filled in as interim manager for a month in between “gaffers”! When the season began, Sky Blues’ current “gaffer,” Mark Robins, took over for Andy Thorn, who is now a member of the CCFPA, after he had only lasted four games. But in the middle of February, Mark moved to Huddersfield Town. Today, Steven Pressley, a former Sky Blue defender and current CCFPA member, was in control of CCFC matters. 10,981 people were in attendance at the Ricoh (including 1,118 from Doncaster).

After just thirteen minutes, the Sky Blues, who had lost 10 points the Friday before due to going into administration, scored their encouraging goal. With a brilliant cross-field pass, John Fleck had found Cyrus, enabling the full-back to cut in deftly from the right. Eventually, Cyrus maneuvered himself to launch a low, left-foot shot that, fortunately, found the bottom corne.

To keep the score tied, Sky Blues ‘keeper Joe Murphy had to perform at the highest level. For instance, in the 22nd minute, he had excellent reflexes to deflect a shot from Donny’s James Husband around the post, and he then made two stops to deny David Cotterill either side of the half. After an improved second half, Donny had multiple opportunities to retake the lead as Jamie McCombe and Dean Furman both missed close-range volleys that would have tied the score, and Furman also hit a post with a 25-yard attempt.
