Ferguson, Guardiola snubbed as Carragher names ‘most important’ manager ever; Man Utd, Man City legends ranked

Sir Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola have been ranked by Jamie Carragher.

While naming a “unique” coach as football’s “most important” person ever, Jamie Carragher has chosen Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United over Pep Guardiola of Manchester City as the greatest manager of all time.

In a “winner stays on” game on Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender was forced to select from a list of some of the greatest managers in history. The game began with Arsenal superstar Thierry Henry asking Carragher to select between Fabio Capello and Rafa Benitez; Capello was chosen

Vicente Del Bosque was then selected by Carragher ahead of Capello; nevertheless, the pundit’s choice of Jose Mourinho caused the former to be eliminated

Following his victory over Arsene Wenger, Mourinho faced Carlo Ancelotti. “I know Carlo has won more Champions Leagues, but I think what Jose did at Porto and Inter Milan, who very rarely win the Champions League,” Carragher said in defense of his choice of Mourinho. I’m going to accompany Jose.

Henry then asked Carragher to choose between Johan Cruyff and Mourinho. “I’m going to go with Johan Cruyff,” he replied
