ALIA RECEIVES GERMAN AMBASSADOR TO NIGERIA, DISCUSSES POTENTIAL FOR PARTNERSHIP

The Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia Thursday, March 21, 2024 received in courtesy the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Gunther and her entourage in Government House, Makurdi.

The German Ambassador and her entourage were in Benue State to commission and handover to the Nigerian Army, projects executed by the German Government at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering (NASME), Makurdi.

The group, first, paid courtesy visit to the Governor of Benue State at Government House Makurdi before proceeding to NASME Barracks where they commissioned Sapper Guest House and Senior Non-commissioned Officers’ Quarters and handed them over to the Nigerian Military.

Governor Alia, while delivering a welcome address during the visit at Government House, Makurdi, emphasized the potential for collaboration and partnership between Germany and Government of Benue State particularly in areas of Security, Education and Skills Development, Environmental Conservation and Climate Change, as well as Cultural Exchange and Tourism,

He said as Governor of Benue State, he was deeply committed to driving sustainable development and improving the livelihoods of Benue people, expressing the hope that Germany’s expertise and support could be instrumental in achieving those goals.

The Governor said Benue State has enormous agricultural potential, and collaborating with Germany could significantly boost the state agricultural productivity and exports, especially in area of livestock.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana Mni, who led the team to Benue State said, the Nigerian partnership with Germany in the area of Defence has been long and consistent, and the projects at NASME is a testament to that partnership.

On her part, the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Gunther thanked Governor Alia for the warm welcome accorded them and assured of the willingness of the German Government to continue to stay true to the bilateral ties it has with the Nigerian Government.

Highlights of the event were presentation of souvenir to guests by the Nigerian Army and a tour of the projects at NASME Barracks
